Using a Mail Client
Such as Outlook |
 |
-
In cPanel, go to
'Email Accounts' in the 'Mail' section.
-
You can see what email
accounts you have set up here, along with the option to set
up a new account.
-
Click 'Configure Mail Client'
for the account you want to add into your PC mail client
- Auto-Configure Your PC Email Client:
You can automatically add your cPanel account(s) into
your Outlook, Outlook Express, or Mac Mail local email
client. Typically you will use 'POP3 Access'. BUT... if you use this method, you
may need to change the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) through
Outlook from mail.yourdomain.com to the SMTP Server your ISP
(Internet Service Provider) lists for use, as many ISP's
make you use their Outgoing Mail Server. When you are
done, go into your mail client (eg: Outlook) and
verify/customize settings noted below.
- Manual Settings
The settings are provided in this section. Use the
non-SSL settings. Normally you will configure for POP3
if you have Outlook. You may need to change the Outgoing
Mail Server (SMTP) through
Outlook from mail.yourdomain.com to the SMTP Server your ISP
(Internet Service Provider) lists for use, as many ISP's
make you use their Outgoing Mail Server.
If you set up your mail accounts manually through an email
program like Outlook, Eudora, or Netscape, or Mac Mail:
- Note that the Mail account UserName needs to be the full
email address.
If you set up 'frank' as your email account, the UserName would be the complete
'frank+yourdomain.com' or
'frank@yourdomain.com'
- Incoming POP3 mailserver: "mail.yourdomain.com"
- Outgoing SMTP mailserver: You may be able to use
"mail.yourdomain.com" but many Internet Service
Providers (ISP's) require you to use THEIR SMTP for
outgoing mail. Ask their tech department what their
outgoing SMTP is.
- If you choose in the settings to 'Leave a copy of the
message on server' be sure to also say to remove it after a
few days. Otherwise your mail account will get overly full,
and cause problems.

Web Based Mail |
 |
|
As
an alternative, you can read and send mail on the
web through SquirrelMail. (Be sure you already have your email accounts set up
through cPanel -
click
here if you need to set up mail accounts.)
To view one specific email account go to:
http://yourdomainname.com/webmail.
- This is the best method for people who have
email accounts set up, but you don't want them
to have access to your whole cPanel or your
main Account Username / Password. To login, the
password will be the custom one that they or you
set up for this specific mail account, not the
main cPanel password.
- Be sure the login user name is the full email address.
If you set up 'frank' as your email account, the UserName would be the complete
'frank@yourdomain.com'.
- You will be asked for the password for that
specific mail account. This is not the password
you have for your main cPanel account (unless
you purposely chose the same one). It will be
whatever you chose when you set up the mail
account.
- If you forget what your mail account
password is, ask your cPanel administrator to
you into cPanel and change it for you.
To access all
email accounts from one place, use cPanel.
This is the best method if you have multiple mail
accounts you want to work with at one time. This is
advised ONLY for the website owner, as you don't
want other people to know your cPanel password or
account information.
- Login to cPanel
- Click 'Email Accounts' (do NOT click on
Webmail) from the
'Mail' section to see all the accounts you
have set up.
- Click on the globe/email icon under 'Access Webmail' for each of the mail
accounts you want to use.
- Enter
the password for that specific mail account.
This is not the password you have for your main
cPanel account (unless you purposely chose the
same one). It will be whatever you chose when
you set up the mail account.
- From here you can read your mail using
SquirrelMail or configure various features for
your email account.
- If you forget what one of the mail account
passwords is, you can change it in the
'Mail Accounts' section of cPanel.

Administration
- Click
on the SquirrelMail image to enter your Webmail
Program
- Modify your SquirrelMail Options
Click on 'Options' to change how many messages
show up on each page, customize your look,
change your personal information, etc.
- Deleting/Purging
Once you delete messages, you MUST also click
(Purge) to permanently remove them. To purge:
- First delete any messages you want from
all folders
- Refresh your browser window, and you
will see that (Purge) shows up right next to
'Trash' in the left column.
- Click on (Purge) to permanently remove
all deleted emails.
If you do not purge deleted messages they
will keep building up and can cause
problems.
