ShopZone Tips Tricks & Shortcuts

Remove the ShopZone accesslog db files immediately
The accesslog files in your db folder corrupt very easily, making your site inoperable. They alow down the speed of your site. So you will want to remove these ASAP. You can still get website statistics from your cPanel (yourdomain.ext/cpanel).

Removing these problem databases:
Delete all files beginning with "accesslog.xxx" in

  1. the "db" subdirectory on your remote website on our server (through ftp), AND

  2. the db folder on your own computer (so that you don't re-publish these files the next time you publish). (How to install & publish ShopZone on moonSlice servers).

Style Sheet - Global Layout
You can customize your style sheet to completely fit your look and feel.

  1. Go to the "Style" button and choose "File/Edit Style".

  2. Do a "save as" and rename the style in the "Style Name" field. This will create your very own style, so that you don't lose the default style you chose to begin with.

  3. To edit this style, including default font, table widths, background colors, default text that goes on every page of your ShopZone site, etc - use a program like Dreamweaver and find your style sheet in the c:/ShopzonePro30/styles folder.

  4. You can customize practically anything, but just be sure NOT to put any content into the main large cell of the table, as this is where ShopZone creates/allows customized content for each page of the site. To edit this customized content for each individual page, open that particular page in Dreamweaver.

Customize individual pages
To edit customized content for each individual page, open that particular page in Dreamweaver and edit the content in the main large cell.

**Do NOT edit any content in any of the other cells (the top, bottom, and left cells, as the content for those cells is determined in the style sheet (see above).

Product images and thumbnails
You can keep your image file sizes down and obtain better quality by doing the following:

  1. DON'T let ShopZone automatically size the main product image

  2. DON'T let ShopZone automatically create the thumbnail.

  3. DO use a program like Macromedia Fireworks to create the images and thumbnails. It produces great quality and keeps file size very small. In fact, Fireworks can do a batch creation of all thumbnails of all your images at once! PhotoShop and PhotoPaint are alternative programs that can also do this. (If you want to save the money, the ShopZone forum said there is a free program that can do batch creation of thumbnails called IrfanView, which you can get from download.com)

Linking ShopZone pages with non-ShopZone pages (so your shopcart isn't lost):

  1. FROM ShopZone pages TO other pages on your site... you must put the full path - e.g http://www.yourdomain.ext/whateverpage.html

  2. FROM other pages TO ShopZone pages... you must use a relative path - e.g.
    /cgibin/webc.cgi/shopzonesubdirectoryifany/whateverpage.htm

  3. FROM ShopZone pages TO OTHER ShopZone pages... use a relative path without the webc or directories in the path - e.g. /shopzonepage.htm

Changes in categories won't publish
ShopZone 3.7 and below users will find that if you make changes in a category, the changes won't be published, and you will get an error message. You need to close ShopZone, reopen it, and then manually select those category files (even if they aren't selected by ShopZone) and publish them.
